Sick pig :(

I keep wondering if maybe it was cause by a "hay poke"? I don't know much about piggies but hay pokes are suppose to be pretty common.
They can be with rabbits, too. Two of my bun charges had eye irritation, which was fixed by flushing the eye twice daily with a saline solution designed for soaking contacts (not the kind designed for disinfecting them).

TwoTinyTrees, ask your vet about which type of eye solution to get, if you decide to keep some on hand.

That could be the cause. Hay does get "stuck" in piggies other end, in particular, male pigs...:(
Yeah its such weird problem to have. You'd think evolution would have come up with something to help prevent it. I dunno maybe it doesn't happen much in the wild? It just sad when it happens. I'm a bleeding heart when it come to animals not feeling well. I know it's life and it happens, I just can't help but feel for any being that is suffering.

It's great its not an abscess. I keep wondering if maybe it was cause by a "hay poke"? I don't know much about piggies but hay pokes are suppose to be pretty common. I really hope the new meds are working well for her And you see even more improvement soon. Get well soon little piggy
:sadhug2:

The vet was telling me that it could be a congenital defect or just a really bad infection :(...so we will see:wideyed: we still have a few more days left of the meds and the eye is not nearly at crusty and gross but now we are left with white "boogies" hopefully this goes away soon..we are going to set up an appointment with an Eye Specialist just in case ..hopefully she wont need to go! This is one expensive little pig! :2cents::shocked4:

We had another pig that we got at the same time and they have been kept in separate cages this entire time:shakehead: (a month now ) so a good friend of mine decided to take her in with her herd until Beignet gets better! :swoon:because we don't know how long this is going to take!:shrug3: Her eye muscles have atrophied so her left eye is significantly smaller than her right but oh well...shes a pirate pig!

Why would someone judge you? She is your little friend and family member and you want to help her to the best of your ability. The only people who would judge you are people who don't understand the love between ourselves and our animal buddies. However I know that there are those who just give up and don't want to spend anything. I knew a guy who laughed at me when I said I was taking my bird to the vet. He said why bother they are just sh*tbags. We didn't remain friends for very long.

Hope all will be well with Beignet. The good thing is that she has shown some improvement.

If anyone dares give you a hard time, let me know...Milton will pay them a "visit"...;)

Seriously, I'm glad Beignet is feeling better, and that she'll be in good hands....:)

I couldn't agree more with the sentiment above. But I will add that I will punch them in the throat when Milton is done. You are doing the best you can for her. Again, some would not care enough to do anything. Yes, I WILL pass Judgement on you-You are caring for your little piggy the best you can and are making a VERY tough decision in her best interest; to get her the best care possible. Don't let anyone tell you that you are doing anything but trying to get her the best care.
