Looking for some advice! I will be going out of town for 2 and a half days for Thanksgiving. I have two linnies and one lovebird, all around 6 mos old. I cannot make up my mind whether to board Aoife, the lovebird, or not. Her cage is next to the linnies' and she loves to watch them and show off for them. They will be fine with my friend coming 2x a day to check and feed them and my two cats, but Aoife requires a lot more attention than they do. On one hand I think boarding is ideal because although she'll be stressed she'll still be around people a lot, but on the other hand she'll be stressed! I'm still new to having birds so I would love to know what other people would suggest. Thanks everyone in advance!

@d_msparkles is dealing with that, too.

I've got a birdsitter that stays here when I'm gone. Before that, I used my AV. Before that, my birds were boarded. The owner collects caiques, so we got lucky. When I only had 3 birds, they went with me; my buddy fed the large animals; my neighbor was in charge of the cat.

I think if they can all stay at home in their familiar environment that is best. Like you said, less stressful.

I think keeping her in a familiar setting with her Linnie friends would be best. It's only 2 1/2 days, I think the familiar would be preferable. But that's just my humble opinion.
That's what I was thinking, I just worry about her being lonely. But ... Really not very long.

Even if you do board them, you'd be surprised. When I took Sherbie to "Bird Camp" last time, all the boarded birds did things in unison. It was crazy... one starts eating; they all eat. One starts playing; they all vocalize and play. I board with my vet, because if something were to go wrong, I know the birds would be in good hands.

I have several avian vets in the area and I don't see boarding on their websites. Is that something that av's commonly do? I think Aoife will stay home but if I went out of town for longer in the future sometime would be good to know .

Howdy! When I go away, I do both. Either Eros will stay at home if there's someone to care for him (especially if I'm away a long time, then he definitely stays at home). He has learnt that he might not get the same attention if I'm not there but will get thoroughly spoilt when I get back. Or I take him to a pet sitter who specialises in caring for birds. There he stays in his cage (he's free flighted so she doesn't risk him getting loose) and has soooo much fun chatting to other birds or competing with the Minah's and cockatoos in the song of their people.

I'd only ever leave him with someone I trust though

It takes a great deal of trust to leave you animals in the care of someone else. When I went to see my daughter last year I trained two neighbors to take care of both my birds and one cat. Had everything written down, and I mean everything. The animals were just fine when I got home. When boarding a bird they usually do not get out of the cage or much personal attention.

I don't think my vet advertises it on their site, I just asked the front desk about it during a checkup.
