Pictures Sampson needs a soft place to land. Severe Macaw in Ontario

This is probably a long shot but a friend has asked if I can help rehome a parrot for his friend. He lives in Ontario, Canada.


Sampson is a male, Severe Macaw in his 30s. He's affectionate but I think he's a one person type bird and prefers men. He has had one owner for past 20 years. He had a foot infection in the past that left his feet slightly disfigured but he is fine with climbing on horizontal bars (not so well on vertical ones) and perching on a hand with the help of a human thumb holding him stable. He comes with a cage but it should probably be upgraded (see picture).


The owner is willing to do a trial period to see if the bird/new owner is a good fit.

The reason for rehome is due to life change (divorce, move and change to work that requires travel). Money isn't a motivator here and finding a suitable home is the main goal.

If anyone is interested, I can put them in touch with the owner.

I think the owner is trying to work things out to keep him afterall. It is good when that happens but frustrating too when they get people involved with helping and then change their minds.

As long as it good for the bird I hope it works out. I wish I was in a position to take him. I'm fascinated by mini Macaws. But I'd worry about Echo's dust Plus having money for vet bills would also be an issue. I hope he finds a soft place to land whichever the outcome

Niagara region but as I said, last I heard, he is trying to arrange to keep him afterall. Which is good for Sampson.
