Lovebirds do that, too.
:giggle:

I feel so silly not knowing that but I'm glad I learned something new! I wonder if there's a reason for that? Maybe cause they're wings are smaller?

Lately though the cere is bluish white so I very much think girl now.
He isn't female. He's going through the equivalent of our puberty so you won't see the final result for a while, and his cere was pink so he's a he, and it will go blue.
Just like with human kids, growing up throws all kinds of curve balls.

It’s not about the size of the bird in the fight, it’s about the size of the fight in the bird, and Sam’s got plenty!

I would think they do that because it is easier for them to scratch their head over the wing, it would be in the way if they scratch from under it, + it probably helps them keep their balance.

@Ripshod , yes the cere was purple/pink then a lilac color and now a very light blue. Sam certainly acts male but that isn't any guarantee. I'm also starting to hear speech. Garbled but "baby bird" is getting pretty clear. Also playful as heck. At what age does the cere become it's mature color?

There's no actual age per se. But usually I'd expect the change to occur gradually over about 3 months, but then every birb is different.
