One of my classmates shared that with me today. Very sad. Snow and very cold weather in May in Big Bear....weather here (So. CA) has been weird.

That is sad. I wonder if the parents will remove the chick from the nest?

I was thinking the same. But I think they will, and when they do they most be even more sad. (I know that is human feelings, but for some how they most realize that they are throwing out their own baby. )

Baby just woke up, stretched, got up, pooped over the edge and is back off to slumberland... Mom is in a dead sleep.

Mom just woke up... pooped, called out a few times and tucked her head back in. Interesting! I need to be tucking my head in...

Ahaa. For those of you who didn't know (like I didn't), the female is the larger of a pair of Bald Eagles.

"The most obvious differences between male and female Bald eagles are their size. Females are usually a third of the size larger than males. Females tend to weigh between ten to fifteen pounds more. Females will typically have a wingspan of up to eight feet. Whereas the males weigh between five to ten pounds less, with a wingspan reaching up to six feet."

Right now at 9:08 in the Big Bear nest, the mother bird is eating the dead baby. I wondered if that might happen, because to throw away any resources is not common in the wild.

Yes, I've been watching them. It is sad, but it is near the edge of the nest now so the healthy baby has more room.
I've been so engrossed with this I didn't make dinner for hubby yet lol

It's still there on the edge of the nest. Glad I didn't see that.

Glad I missed that! The dead baby is still there though. The adult in the nest is eating a fish right now. I wondered if the people monitoring the nest would go up and remove the baby but thought too it would be risky to do that. I wouldn't want to see the other baby get frightened and jump out. I did see a leg band on the right leg a few hours ago.
