Today I found Sudlhor lifeless at the bottom of the cage. Joseph sat vigil next to the body for who knows how long until he saw me and flew to me... He was very light and fragile. Worst of all, he didn’t close his eyes.
I don’t know what to process in my head at the moment. The sweet boy just suddenly passed away. Grandma immediately buried him (she doesn’t believe in necropsy). And Now I have like a million questions in my head about what did I do to cause such death....

With sudden death the eyes remain open. Probably a heart attack. My mother was found with her eyes open after a heart attack. Sounds like Joseph was waiting for you to come, without eating at all during his vigil. Spend lots of time with Joseph he is grieving and so are you. You didn't do anything wrong, don't blame yourself.

The saddest part is that Mali (the white parrotlet), doesn’t know that he died. He’s currently at the vet. Nothing serious, he just has a nearly invisible, cataract-like wound on his left cornea that requires drops every 2 hours (something that I can’t provide because I’m out during the day, so I board him there).
IDK what to tell him when he returns all happy and beeping to find out that there’s only Joseph in the cage...

This is literally the last picture I’ve taken before he passed away (he’s the pied parrotlet at the front). It was just this Saturday. We were all having treats and watching the coronation of the king.
He also happened to just got accepted into the older p’lets’ flock for just about 2 weeks. Before that Sudlhor can’t get within 20cm radius of them.
As mentioned before, Joseph sat vigil next to his body. I’m not sure if he was able to witness Sudlhor’s last moments or not. Either case, it’s still heartbreaking to think.
Imagine having to watch a new member of your flock going lifeless before you...
