Uh oh, big scooter now knows he just has to mess his feathers up a bit to go for a car ride.
He whistled and chatted and laughed n his deep man's voice all the way ...probably laughing at me rushing to get a feather pulled that wasn't there :rofl::rofl:

Wow :eek::eek:
thanks for the info gg!! :hug8:
Maybe I should get a tube of Super Clot for her?

p.s.
She never used to stock piperacillin, just baytril and clavamox, but she said for your birds I will :dance4: It's a much kinder antibiotic.
I would get her a tube - that way she'll have some handy if she needs it when yours come in as well

here is one i found so far
http://www.exoticbird.com/gillian/bleeding.html
[FONT=Comic Sans Ms, Arial]DO NOT use silver nitrate sticks or Kwik Stop to control bleeding from broken blood feathers or on any part of the skin. Silver nitrate is used as a cauterizing agent and destroys skin. Kwik stop can cause tissue damage. Both silver nitrate and Kwik Stop can cause systemic poisoning.
but it can be used on NAILS just nothing near the skin or the beak

re: <resolved> Update Big Scooter banged up a flight feather. What to do?

styptic is just another word for hemostatic, meaning to stop bleeding

*Super Clot has some but not all of the same ingredients as kwik stop (
Kwik Stop Styptic Powder
Ingredients: Ferric Subsulfate, Aluminum Chloride, Diatomite, Bentonite, Copper Sulfate, Ammonium Chloride, Benzocaine)

take her a copy of the MSDS on silver nitrate -

http://www.jtbaker.com/msds/englishhtml/s2282.htm

I looked up kwik stop and AgNO3 (silver nitrate) is not listed

so is Super Clot safe for skin wounds?

re: <resolved> Update Big Scooter banged up a flight feather. What to do?

Dr. Gold's Super Clot fast acting gel stops bleeding, disinfects and has a numbing agent. Use to stop bleeding from minor cuts and wounds. Especially useful after nail trimming and minor surgery such as tail docking and ear cropping. Easy-to-use syringe applicator is more convenient and sanitary than styptic powders. For dogs, cats, small animals and birds. Shipping weight: 1/8 lb.

Active Ingredients:
Ferric Sulfate, Aluminum Sulfate, Lidocaine HcL, Benzethonium Chloride USP.
from http://www.petguys.com/-736990002010.html

since they are talking about using it after a dog gets an ear docking or tail docking that would be applied to the skin - So i'm thinking its safe??
