Jasper learned to fly over the last couple of weeks and he just flew head on into a window. Nothing seems broken and I checked him all over he doesnt seem to hurt anywhere. He sat for the 1st 10 minutes cuddled under my chin and this is very unusual for him he is not a cuddly bird. He then started moving around and wanted back on his cage. He is now sitting on the boing cuddled up with Tango and looks very sleepy. What should I be doing?

You should immediately start making his environment flight safe. Start by visually impairing all the windows with stickers, beaded curtains, tape to simulate bars whatever. As long as they look like they are not open windows.

Top 10 things you can do to prevent your bird from hitting windows.

Hope he's OK. Watch for any swelling or blood pooling under the skin. One eye blinking a lot etc.

First to do is relax! Observe Jasper to see if he has all his motor skills and is able to move around freely. Remember he could be in shock, put him in a quiet room and keep him warm, 85-87 degrees. Then locate the telephone number of your vet and see if they are there for emergencies today should your need them, explain what has happened. Do not feed water or food until you feel he is doing better!

How is Jasper now?

He has been moving around some but mostly just snuggling up to Tango. I put a towel on the bottom of his cage in case he were to fall. I am making up his travel cage right now and will put him in that with a heating pad.

I ordered some of those window alert stickers a couple of days ago since he is flying and not doing to good on his landings.

This is good to put him in the travel container for now and keeping him warm....
Keep an eye on him and I would call the vet just to see what they say for the time being....Please keep us updated and we are here for you!:hug8:

I think he is going to be fine. He was just preening Tango and is now climbing around in his cage. Should I still put him in the travel cage I set up?

I think that if He is acting fine now-I personally would leave Him be(not want to stress Him by moving Him into the travel cage)But keep a Very close Eye on him, also check his droppings for ANY Change-especially in the color(internal bleeding) I Pray that Jasper will be OK:hug8:

re: <resolved> Jasper just hit a window

I just talked to the vet on call at the place I go to. She basically said the same thing that everyone of you wonderful people have told me to do. She said just to keep an eye on him since he is moving around fine and to watch for any changes in his behavior or droppings. Him and Tango are fighting over a toy right now so things seem to be back to normal. Mom needs a glass of wine now and it is only 9am!

Maybe Baileys and coffee would be a better choice :)

I'm so glad that Jasper is doing well! I will keep thinking good thoughts that he stays that way! It's very nerve-wracking when things like this happen, especially after hours. Thank heavens for all the wonderful members that we have here to help!:hug8:

So glad to hear that he is doing o.k. They are so cute snuggling together and I so wish mine got along like that! If you have wine with breakfast does that make it sound better? How about Sangria.... it has fruit in it? People have fruit for breakfast? Hopefully the stickers will slow him down.
