Take the bird to an emergency vet! Putting cornstarch or the such into an open, deep gash is not good. Put pressure on it by holding a towel or the such in place over the bleeding and go to an emergency vet.

Nikki do you know if there are any vets that offer emergency services? Did the bleeding just start?

Oh NO!!! I hope Duncan will be fine. Put pressure on it with a towel. Call the emergency number.

You need to stay very calm and keep Duncan very calm-so that The bleeding will stop quicker.Once Both You and He are calm-try to get a good look at the wound and see how bad it is.If He has torn out the stitches-You will need to get him to a Vet ASAP.Until then keep him calm and warm!

Glad you spoke with someone Nikki. I hope it stops on its own so you dont have to go in. I know sometimes stitches can weep a little bit with dogs so maybe it is the same with birds.

Do you have the Non stick pads for wounds?
If so, use those instead of a towel to stop the bleeding...
you don't want to catch the loops of the towel on the stitches and pull them...
Staying calm and talking to Duncan in a calm voice is VERY IMPORTANT...
If ANY of the stitches have been pulled out, let your vet know...you made need to made a collar to keep him from messing with the stitches...
Please keep in touch!:hug8:

re: <resolved> Duncan's stitches are bleeding!

The bleeding stopped & the stitches are still intact. We're going to set up the aquarium for him. The doctor's main concern were the stitches & since the bleeding did stop that it should be okay. The doctor did see him yesterday & knows the wound is healing up good. Thanks everyone for your concern! :hug8:The little goof ball is sitting on my shoulder & preening me. I wish he would just settle down, nothing fazes him. The aquarium is almost set up so he will be going night night. I will be up all night checking on him. I have a sick feeling in my stomach. Don't like to see blood on my babies!
