red crested finches (tanagers)

So I saw some red crested finches a while back, and I'm kind of wishing I had bought them, but haven't seen any since. They are in the tanager family, related to the South American honeycreepers.
Anyone here have any? Want to share your experiences?
I'm in California, and if you know any where in Nor Cal that has them please let me know as well.
I've been thinking about these birds for a while, and still am.

Red crested finches are very pretty! I have seen them listed by Singing Wings Aviary on Bird Breeders a few times.

Have you tried Bird Express in CA...I beleive they still have some: Red Crested Finch - Coryphospingus Cucullatus (5.3")

Ah, I've actually heard of them, haven't seen red cresteds listed when I've visited their site before, but maybe I should contact them.

I'll check out Bird Express too.

Yeah I checked softbills for sale recently. There were some on there, but didn't see any pairs available, and I definitely want a pair if I do get any.

So I'm thinking I'll save up for a pair or two.
I want to set them up for breeding eventually, and hand raise some chicks, and let others be parent raised.
I've hand fed birds before (finches mainly), but it's been a while (with one exception where I had to hand feed a very tiny society finch for a day... but that's another story). So while I save up I'll do some research and refresh my memory on hand feeding the little guys.
If you know of any good websites I should go to in order to help refresh my memory as far as hand feeding finches and softbills goes please feel free to post links here.
