I lost my standard poodle amber this past fall.I had to have her euthanized .For over 11 yrs she was like my shadow and slept on bed with me nights.I really don't think I'll have another dog.I kind of have a green bird who acts alot like a dog anyway. He climbs in my lap for scritches...if I'm reading on my bed..he swings his door to the side to make it to the bed and comes to join me. He sings to me and the rest of the house most days.
I got to thinking Hiram is the last thing I have to my old life left. Amber and sadie (my grey)are gone.I had them both for many good years and still have awesome memories of both.
With Hiram there isn't a dull moment. He holds a two way conversation like hes on phone with someone. If I'm on the phone and he's in his cage...he starts yelling and burping(came from his old owner) and talking rather loudly. So when solicitors call just hand phone to Hiram for a second. He sings beach boy songs perfectly barbaranne...he does the revelry bugle song on western down to a tee.. and so much more.I've found lately his most favorite thing to chew is rope. Not the yucca, pine or any of the other wood..He likes to chew ropeI'm keeping a close eye on his new rope perch because,I've seen him starting to chew and nibble. The days that can be hard he always makes me laugh or smile. It's the first year I've noticed when I look at him he looks a bit older..thats ok so am I!!
My next projects are to find him a smaller cage so I can bring him out for sun.he used to love to be on back porch collecting sunshine and singing to a flock of chickens (67 to be exact)The new place won't have the chickens but who knows he can sing to the wildlife... then I want to build him a playstand also.I believe like a cat or a dog a parrot can be a companion animal also.If i knew way back when I got Hiram would I do it all over again? In a heartbeat...thank goodness this green feathered boy picked me all those years ago.
