Question about dying wood blocks?

What type of food dye is safe/the best? Just regular liquid food dye, gel food dye etc? How long should I soak the wood blocks for? Any help appreciated

I use Vitakritter, which I mix with rubbing alcohol in small sterilite bins with tight lids. The dye is almost instantaneous, depending on the wood's color.

Love the Vitacritter dye. Seems expensive when you first buy it but a little goes a long way and the colors are so bright compared to using the same amount of dye by other brands.
