Did you know you can substitute pumpkin puree for eggs, oil, and butter in a baking recipe? It's a great way to save on the fat and add some beta carotene!

Tried it out this weekend with some Momma's Autumn Harvest Birdie Bread. Ripley approved, which is big because he doesn't usually eat bread!



Here's the substitution guide I followed and bonus: this is the same ratios for applesauce if you can't get pumpkin puree!)

I wonder if he would eat cooked beets. Half of mine will eat it. I haven’t bought any for a while because they’re too small right now. John gives Tika and Amanda canned beets. I here the heck is that old buzzard these days??

He does eat raw beet root Root vegetables in general seem to be his favorites - beets, radish, and parsnips are often what he goes for. I think maybe he just likes to destroy them

Funny that he's the pickiest bird I've ever met but radishes are a yes for him

I’ve never offered radishes to my littles but I have some on hand so they’ll get some today to see if they like it. The biggies are a lot more picky… it was a no go for them.

I saved this recipe on Instagram to make for us. I embellished with extras and loved it. The same could be made for birds with the omission of some ingredients or other ingredients added. I made it again and added taco seasoning and some chipotle sauce and made some mini flour tortillas…. Awesome!! I had some leftover and made some taquitos using egg roll wrappers. Here’s the link:
