Poor Inky got microchipped today and he's still out of it. They had to give him a sedative and he's still having problems moving around. To top things off, I just found out that my old vet sold the practice to a new vet and there was a new tech and he didn't know who these people were so he was really upset.

I will not get my birds microchipped, the reason they gave him the sedative was because of the size of the needle, 14 gauge to put the chip in. I would be terrified of having them put that in a bird.

Poor Inky. It is a rather large needle as the chip is about the size of a grain of rice. I hope he feels better soon.:hug8:

When I had my birds microchipped I did not have them sedated. It is simply a needle stick, although a large bore needle. My birds squawked once and it was over. They got a cuddle, a treat and were fine. Largest bird was a CAG and smallest a very petite Meyers.

My cats were not sedated for microchipping and they did just fine. Also my Vet would not send a pet home if they wer not fully awakened from sedation. :hug8:Sorry Inky had such a hard time.
