So I had three parakeets. Two are american budgies and one is an English budgie. About a month ago I put all three into a semi-outdoor aviary. Sadly, one of the american budgies named Pudgie passed away. Right before she died I noticed that she had gotten some orange feathers on her head and her tail. Now, only a week later I saw that my other two have the same problem. I brought them inside.

P.s I had put a orange mineral block in their aviary that stained my hand the same shade of orange, but I saw no bite marks on it. Some one please help me because I have no idea what is going on with them.

Sorry for your loss, losing a bird is hard :sad1:

Now about the mineral block.
They probably just brushed against it,
They don't have to eat it for the colour to get onto them.

I had a white zebra finch who used to sit next to the green mineral block I had for them until his tail and wings were green :D

So the orange feathers are probably nothing, just stains from being near it.

Did it get really hot in the aviary or anything?

May well be the orange min block. they donlt have to bite it they could be wet & land on it & transfer the color to there body. I don;t know but maybe just a plain white mineral block would be better as who knows what dyes are in it.

I might toss the orange block & closely watch the others.

most likely it's the mineral block staining their feather. all it takes is damp feathers a good rub rub on the block and you have orange feather but if you are worried then into avian vet asap
