I few minutes ago I found Pickpocket, my Budgie, dangling from her neck and foot from a play stand!
She had silk threads wrapped around her neck and one of her feet. She was limp and didn't make a sound. Her foot was completely restricted and one toe has started turning black. I have no idea how long she has been hanging there!!! The last time I saw her was this morning before work. I only saw her when I got home!!! She must have been hanging herself for hours!!!
I cut the silk that was attached to the stand. I unwrapped the silk from her neck.
I then gave her 0.2ml of Meloxicam to help with the pain.
She was very limp the whole time!!!
I managed to get all the threads untangled from her foot. Most of it had cut through the toes. There was blood. Her one toe definitely looks broken and the other is almost black.
I've given her Poly-aid Plus (http://www.vetafarm.com.au/products/POLY%252dAID-PLUS-80g.html) as well as 0.5ml of water because that is all that I could safely get down her throat.
She is now on a heat pad in a quiet and dark room.
I'm scared to handle her guys!!! She is so weak and so limp. Her wings are completely droopy and the one dropping she passed is completely made up of urates.
It is 11:30pm here. I can take her to the Emergency Vet, but they do not specialise in birds. They say they can give her pain medicine and heat until I can take her to my avian vet. I've given Pickpocket these, but should I take her anyway?
My avian vet opens at 9:00am but they take calls from 8:30am. I'll be at their doors at 9:00am so I'll phone them on the way over there so that they can prepare for my arrival. It should be no problem for them to see me without an appointment because it is an emergency.
I don't know if Pickpocket will make it through the night! She is so limp.
I feel sick to my stomach to think what she has endured.
What else can I do for her?
