My CAG will kill a mouse if he can reach it and he is one who will sound an alarm to get help if he sees a mouse in the birdroom. Another thing that spooks him is spiders landing on him.

Anything could have spooked him. It happens. Bad dream, cat walking in the dark, mouse pitter patter, shadows, rotated position in the night (turning around) and then bumping a tail feather on a toy and getting upset over it. Anything can cause a night fright.
