Parrot fever ?

Hi everyone.

Sad news. I rushed Kitt off to specialist as my local vet was not happy with progress.

He did blood tests as Kitt has massive infection and badly dehydrated. He also did xray and Kitt stomach is slightly enlarged

He suspects Kitt has Parrot fever.

Have anyone of you dealt with this before. It sounds really scarey.

Kitt is on antibiotics, fluid replacement and being crop fed.

yes, from what I have read this is the name "Psittacosis" the Human condition is "Parrot Fever"

There is a test for psittacosis. If your vet suspects that, he should be tested to rule it out. It needs a specific antibiotic and you can catch it as well. Dr. Orosz always runs a disease test for that.

The bloods test was sent away today. Hopefully have an answer in days time. He has started Kitt on antibiotics in the meantime.

This is such a massive learning curve for me, my other Parrots were healthy as oxen.

So sad for poor Kitt. That pet store owner should be punished. Do you have any other parrots right now or is Kitt your only one?

I definitely am hoping he pulls through and gets better!

An update on Kitt, his is stable. So we made it through another night, and taking it hour by hour.

He is in the icu ward, shame and no visitors allowed.

I will hear again from the Dr this afternoon.

Update on kitt he has lost more weight.
I dont know where this will stop. Yesterday he was only 346g.

He is preening a little. He has got his meds and fluids in. So we wait and see what tomorrow brings

If you can't visit can you drop off some of his favorite foods?
Too bad that they won't let you visit with him. That could be beneficial.
