I am renovating my budgies' outside cage, which is basically a cupboard-made-cage. I would like to have a plant in there, it is about 1m high and if it is a climbing plant it could be much fun for the birds :).
But then I don't know much about plants and those I have had in a cage in the past (herbs mostly, indoor) died pretty quickly.:falleaves:

What do you recommend? It has to:
- be edible by budgies
- stand cold days even in the Summer (Norway here...)
- stand being eaten and pooped on
- preferably providing hiding and climbing possibilities for the birds

Ideally I'd like to have a little forest in there  Is that even possible?! :wacky:

Have you considered a Java stand?

RE trees, these are safe:
Almond, Apple, Arbutus, Ash, Bamboo, Beech, Birch, Cottonwood, Citrus Trees, Crabapple, Dogwood, Elm, Fir, Hazelnut, Palms, Pear, Pecan, Pine, Poplar, Hawthorne, Larch, Lilac, Magnolia, Manzanita, Mulberry, Redwood, Willow.

Cover the base of the tree/plantpot with pebbles so the birds can´t reach the soil.

 I have no idea what that is :hilarious:

EDIT: Had a look on google, looks like a dead tree inside the cage, right? They'll have branches and toys, I was just thinking it would be nice to have a living plant too, if it can survive being caged with the birds that is.. Maybe I could go and find a wild little willow outthere...

It will cost more than a tree, but will last longer and winter won´t kill it ;)
You could hang hemp nets from it and weave in bamboo if you want some green on it.

I'm sure! Doesn't look cheap :wideyed: I'm very much a DIY person -everything my birds and guinea pigs have is homemade!- so I suppose I could make my own, but as I said, there is already branches in there and I'm more interested in the green part of the tree. Your idea to weave bamboos is good:smarty:, maybe I could hang several sprouts from hemp on the back side of the cage... :cool4: with large floral tubes to keep them alive through a week maybe...

It is about 90 cm in width, 40 deep, 100 high

I am considering honeysuckle in addition to what I could hang from floral tubes or small bottles on the wall... I see for exemple fren and baby's tears should be OK
