Not Again!!

This morning Murphy was not acting right, sleeping much more than usual and opening and closing his beak quite often. I waited a few hours to see if he would get better. Not so. He got worse. I rushed him to my avian vet and had a feeling what his diagnosis would be. I have seen this before. You remember Chipper who died from AGY? Murphy has it now. I am totally devastated. Because he is lethargic the vet suggested he could begin the treatment while he was in the hospital for the weekend. He is in an incubator now. They will begin Baytril and Amphotericin B together. If he responds to treatment he will be ok. I know AGY is almost always ultimately fatal. I don't think God wants me to have budgies any more.

Mickey shows no signs and the vet said not to treat her if she is asymptomatic. So I am home now without my little man.

Thyme tea is supposed to help fight the fungal disease... as far as I know.

It did not help before at all. Last time I gave my budgie so many things including herbs and ACV. This time around not sure I want to do that. The medications he is on may be less effective. The budgies are all highly prone to getting fungal infections. My vet repeated we don't know why or where it comes from. In both cases it was the male that got it. Females were ok. In the show world of budgies they give ACV routinely ever so often. What is known that yeast shows up in birds who have lower immunity. Murphy was treated for some kind of nasal blockage a few months ago.

ACV is not effective for AGY, in fact most fungal medications are not able to treat AGY. AGY is hard to diagnose and hard to treat. Amp B is the only drug I've seen used to treat it. It will make your bird much more ill before better.

Many budgies have AGY without signs of infection. Is it possible your little one is feeling ill from something else?
