Since I'll be going out to the vet Thursday, Mom #2 (future MIL) asked if she could run the self cleaning feature on the oven. I told her that all ovens that are self cleaning typically have teflon/ptfe, and that it was a really bad idea, even if my birds and I will be gone for a few hours. She's all adamant that it doesn't have teflon/ptfe... :mad2: nevermind that I've pulled up articles before. Anyways, she's irritated because the birds are preventing her from doing this. Oven hasn't been cleaned in 8+ years or so. She made some snide comment about the birds again and I walked off. I was determined to find a better route; one that's safe for the fids, and us. Heated teflon isn't good for anyone.

Well, cleaning was easy. I sprayed a mix of dawn, water, and lemon and let it soak, then made a baking soda and dawn paste and scrubbed. It took a while to scrub off, but really, I doubt this so called self cleaning would even do anything but scorch whatever was in there. The grates are sparkly clean now, and you can see the bottom of the oven.

I win. :bonnie:

I need to do that too. Every time I use SOS pads I can never get the smell out and it smells more when heated. I'll try the baking soda next time!

I've done baking soda and vinegar paste overnight in my old oven.

@Peachfaced

Be careful when you come home from vet. She may run it anyway while you are out

My best cleaning is when I'm ticked off at someone.

Now that I think on it, that's when I used to make homemade bread. No wonder I only make those black walnut nut rolls on holidays, I have a fantastic relationship with my hubby.

That might be the case for me, too. I could think of worse things to do out of spite. At least it's productive! I've never had black walnut bread, but my mom used to tell me childhood horror stories of her own mother announcing to the kids that she had bought ice cream, only to find out it was black walnut. It was purportedly the worst possible ice cream.

:ygg: Also, my pseudo MIL is super nice but I absolutely hate it when she starts cleaning my house. Its an anxiety issue so I dont want to be too mean about it, but she has done things like empty the dishwasher when they were still dirty (because I wait until I have a full load) and me only finding out later :dead:

Oh my... NO. No way! :gag: Now, I've grabbed a dish not knowing the dish washer hadn't been run, but usually it's obvious since there's usually some particles on there still. By the time I got to the 3rd dish (I was putting them away) I realized the mistake and threw more dishes in and ran it.

Mom #2 hates cleaning.

Mothers-in-law are blessings.

Even when they drive you batty, remember if it wasn't for them you wouldn't have the man you love. I encourage rack of you to give your mother-in-law a bouquet of flowers on your husband's birthday with a thank you.

Huh, I have only thought of writing her a long complaint letter... :giggle:
