newcastle disease in parakeets?

i don’t have parakeets. i work at a pet store. we recently received a shipment of parakeets where one of them showed symtoms of neurological dysfunction and had to be euthanised. the state has quarantined the rest of the birds for possible newcastle disease, something apparently more common in poultry. if confirm it, the other birds have to be euthanised even though they’ve shown no symptoms (i understand why but it still makes me sad).

anyone with birds doesn’t handle the parakeets so i don’t see them. but has anyone heard of this disease in pet birds?

They’re psittacines, right? It’s prevalent in psittacines and highly contagious. And deadly. :(
