Poor Kalypso, she's feeling soooooo neglected cause mommy brought home big sister, Kira (IRN) this weekend (read that with a mother's sarcasm). She had to sulk on her play yard and call to Kira, making sure I was listening lol...oh my little drama queen
Pretty sure Kalypso is a she...the brilliant blue is only on the rump. I see now why you wanted the wing photos I'll take some in the morning (now I'm second guessing myself lol), but she/he hates me handling the wings.
Better view of the rump area and wing. To be honest, from what I read I wondered if that was the case, but she said girl, so I trusted that.
Oie - she's a breeder who breeds parrotlets, linnies, lovebirds, budgies, and IRN; and has others as strictly pets. It's so loud inside. I love my babies, she does care for them and does do DNA, but she didn't on Kalypso. Well, at least I dont have to worry about egg bonding...
I reached out to get a second opinion for you using your picture. Just so I can also feel better. They requested another photo of under the wing and head.
Ok so I am getting mixed responses in the group. An under wing photo seems to be a crucial piece of the puzzle.
You got to love pied morphs. These are words from a breeder. "Only the wings can determine sex. Not eye streaks or rump. Cobalt on edge and under wings is male."
Here is Kalypso under the wing and face. If the cobalt on the wing is important, than she is a she. The top of the wing is in the photo I posted earlier
Kalypso was NOT pleased with me this morning taking these lol...oh my
Awe the poor dear, she was mid eating for a photo shoot.
I am headed to bed so I will update you on any changes. People in the breeding group are complaining about the light from the aquarium now, they can't tell for sure. I can understand that they don't want to mis-sex the bird. From my eye popping new knowledge, I would say female. Holy moly! So glad I got another opinion. Admittedly she shows many other traditionally viewed male colours. This is why we need to keep our minds open
Thank you for going on this adventure with me. I am happy to learn more about them! You know what the cobalt colour looks like. If you see this on the underwing and wing edge you know you have a boy.
hahaha - I was in a rush, had to leave for work. You can let them know I'll get clearer photos tonight, but she won't be happy about it! Have a great sleep!
