Hi guys!

I've recently taken home a 6 month old African Ringneck. I've been told by numerous people from several different bird FB groups that my baby Fallon is not an African Ringneck. I was wondering if anyone could gelp me out here.

Did they say why they thought that?

I don't know, but your baby is the lime green color (although lighter than I would expect to see) and has the dark baby eyes. I can't tell from the picture, is there any rim around the eyes? The beak color is a little lighter than I would expect to see.

Hopefully an expert will be along soon. Welcome to the board!

It's a little confusing to me too... can you show the back including the tail feathers? Where did you buy this bird? From a breeder?

Welcome to the Avenue, David and Fallon. :)

From my understanding, ARNs have a different looking beak than IRNs.

Fallon's beak doesn't look like our Titan's beak when he was 6 months old...remember, this is what I'm seeing and remembering from a long time ago...29 years ago...;)

This is the best I can do to help you - a picture of a baby African Ringneck.

The feet in this photo look pink .... the poster's bird has darker feet. The little bit of scalloping to the chest feathers throws me off a little too as well as the darker area on the upper beak along the edge. Possible mutation between two species?

It would be a hybrid... between subspecies. IRN's are considered to be a subspecies of ARN's.... ARN's are the nominate subspecies.

And honestly? The bird appears to be a hybrid to me... or something.... as Fallon just appears "off" to me. Maybe it's the baby feathers? ARN's are rarely raised as pets within captivity and we generally only see adults. If we were able to see the adults that would certainly help! Although maybe not possible?

Super hard to tell and I've actually never seen an ARN in person. I think the largest difference is plum colored beak vs red beak but I have no idea at what point the color comes in. Not very helpful but welcome!
