Hi. I have Cockatiels and just purchased my first GCC. I named he/she PJ. I welcome all the advice and knowledge I can obtain.
Do you think it is necessary to DNA test if you aren't going to breed?
He has been tested for Chlamydia Psittaci. So all is good there.

Not necessary to DNA test. It is helpful to know the sex of the bird if there are behavioral issues that could be explained if you knew. I have 4 parrots that over time have all been DNA but I knew before the results what sex the bird was and I was right every time. I could tell by the behaviors exhibited over time.

Welcome to the Avenue! I am sure that you can have the DNA done if you want during a routine blood draw on your first year Vet visit. It's pretty cheap to have done, I did it since they already took blood it was like $25 to find out. They are wrong on my U2 and right on my Amazon.

If you see an egg, then it's a Girl! LOL That's how we found out our U2 was a Girl after they said she was a boy.

welcome!

I do DNA test so I know if I have to be wary of egg laying and the associated issues that can come from it. :)
