Hi, my husband just brought home a beautiful 14 week old. Super excited, but looking for any suggestions. We have a German Shepherd, Shiba inu and 10 chickens ☺

14 weeks? Weaned?

How much do you know about hand feeding and weaning?
Expect backsliding, even if they say he's fully weaned.

Congrats on your new baby.

I also have GSDs also, keep your baby safe, prey instinct can come out in a split second.
Never leave dogs and bird alone in the home in the same room. Make sure there is a way to keep the dogs out of your birds room.
I've seen dogs knock cages over, even go so far as to grab birds through bars.

Mine live peacefully together, but they've also grown up with the birds already here.

Yours may well get very excited over that new fluttery thing.

Yes, weaned. I've trialed our Shepherd in obedience and sheep herding, however, he's not to be alone in the same room as our bird, yet. He's great with the chickens, but needs to be introduced slowly.

Congrats on your new babe. :)

Best suggestion I have is make sure you weigh the babe each day in grams to make sure there is no weight loss. Offer lots of fresh foods along with a Pellet diet. My CAG is turning 6 months next week, she never did backslide after weaning but have read many do after going to a new home. Of course plenty of toys to keep them entertained.

Most of all have loads of fun times with the sweet thing, they will keep you on the go and laughing constantly.:D

Best advice I was given about the TAG I had was to expose her to something new each day because Grey's can be afraid of so many things. Best advice I can give you is to never have your dog in the same area as this bird. Predator vs. prey can have a tragic ending. Congrats on your new baby grey. Have you chosen a name yet?

You guys are awesome! No name yet, but we do have a scale to weigh her. My chickens are super spoiled and eat lots of fresh greens and veggies, so she'll be spoiled right along with them. We have pellets , but is there a particular brand that is best? Love the idea about exposing her to new stuff every day

I would feed Harrison's High Potency ( for a baby Grey)as the primary
I also feed my Grey Roudybush pellets, almonds, well washed veggies, healthy cakes that I make and freeze, cook and frozen chops, a little healthy seed.
I would avoid all peanuts.

Welcome to AA and congratulations on the new grey...my favorite species...or maybe the Galahs are...I can't decide! We have four CAGs and a TAG at home. No babies. We also have three spoiled Serama chickens! You are going to love that baby grey! Does she have a name yet? And just a little hint...we LOVE pictures here!:)

I don't know much about CAG's (congratulations by the way!), but I have heard that they're dusty birds like cockatoos and cockatiels, so I'd suggest getting an air purifier in the bird room as soon as you're able! (If I'm wrong correct me haha.)

I too fed Harrisons High potency pellets. Greys need more calcium and this one does the trick. Its the bag with the red label.
