Okay, so I am terrified of using hair gels or sprays because my sun conure Skittles loves to preen my hair. There's a hair style I'd really like to try but it requires some sort of way to shape my hair to make it stay a certain way. Are there any bird safe alternatives to the dangerous gels and sprays found in most stores?

I apply a tiny bit of coconut oil as leave-in conditioner while my hair is damp. I have curly hair and it holds in ringlets with the oil. If you put too much in it gets greasy you smell like a coconut though!

Thank you for all your responses! I'm going to be trying many of those before I get my hair cut. Sorry for taking so long to reply!
I will most definitely update with results once I have the time to do all this.

Oh I have a good one!
I was about to start a post of the same kind of subject (and I think I still am as this doesn't a address my "issue" - but I'm glad I found it because I won't feel so strange doing it anymore lol)

What I do for my hair is a "linseed gel". All you have to do it boil linseed in water for about 10 min. drain it, and let it cool down - it turns into a gel! You can start with 3 parts of water to one part of linseed, if you want a thicker gel you can add more linseed.
Keep it in the fridge for up to a week.
Hope this helps :)
