In the last week, Buddy has started to pull the newspaper up from under the grate, rip it into strips, and try to form a nest out of the strips.

Comments? Could Buddy be a girl?

I think you have a girl! But both gender can build a nest, but more common if a female does it.

My two boys are my nest builders. Take away the paper just in case.

I think I'll raise the grate so Buddy's busy beak can't get to the paper...

We never saw any eggs from Buddy at the rescue, but that doesn't mean anything for sure...! He did like to rip up paper that was on/around his grate sometimes, but he never seemed to do anything other than tear the paper a bit and then move on (usually back to his food bowl. .. ).

...ah yes...the great equalizer...FOOD!

I swear he eats all day long and never gains a gram!

He's 135g...the same he was at his annual exam at the beginning of June...
