Congrats! I have an aviary custom made by them also but not as large. I did buy shade cloth used for dog kennels and attached it using bungee ball cords. I also attached a misting hose often used for patio umbrellas or pergolas that I got through Home Depot...my tiels love it!

It's aluminum and I paid $1k. I guess the catch cage alone is $800 if new, so I think I got a deal, of course I would have loved to pay less but they wouldn't budge on price and I couldn't let it go! I'm not sure how old it is but I don't think they have changed much.

Wow, that is a super score in price and great size!! Yes, I agree a good heavy tarp and secure it and depending on the direction of the sun and time of day they are in it, might need the tarp to come down on one the side like a third of the way down to shade the angle of the sun. Also secure down to the ground because never under estimate wind, it can flip something over like that believe it or not. I'm happy for you on your aviary cage!!

Lowes is a bit of a drive. I'll probably order from Amazon, although I do have a Lowes gift card...

That's a great size! I'm looking at outdoor aviaries but like that one, they often don't have any sheltered sides. Being in the UK shelter is needed more against the wind and rain, not from the sun. I have found 2 with a roof which helps. Would a tarp on the sides be enough to shelter from wind? My other concern is how to secure it down so it doesn't blow over in the wind. Yours is heavier with all that metal, mine are a lot of light wood bits. It's going on concrete so can't hammer a metal peg over it into the soil, so would a heavy sandbag placed on the roof work?
