Hello everyone. My peach faced lovebird passed away last week. She was 15 years old.
Her first symptom was that she was limping with her right leg.
After a few hours she was unable to use both legs (so there was some form of paralysis) and she had blood between breast and abdomen on the feathers. I tried to rub alcohol but i don't think it did any good.
She was very disoriented before she died. Also i saw a bit of blood on her beak in her last hour. Not sure if someone knows but was this a kidney failure or polyomavirus? Any advise will help to find closure. Thank you.

RIP Coca.

I'm so sorry for your loss :sorrow:

It's so hard not knowing the reason why. Having a necropsy done can help with getting some answers. I'm really sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful bird

I second the necropsy. It is the only way to know for sure.

Thank you for your kind words, I already buried her (inside her wooden birdhouse), so necropsy might not be an option. Probably i'll never know for sure what happened.

So sorry for your loss. :sadhug2:The necropsy might have determined the cause of death but can't do that now because she is buried. However necropsies are not always definitive as to the cause.

Alcohol was absolutely the last thing to use. Never use alcohol around birds. You may have caused her immediate death with it. Sorry.

So sorry . She/he may have had a tumor that ruptured and possibly causing the paralysis. Tumors can press on the organs of the body . 15 years is a long life . You must have taken excellent care of you lovie.
It still hurts losing a feathered companion , the two of you had many life journeys togeather. It's never the right time to say goodbye. And always to soon.

I'm not so sure about that. Last time I went to the vet with Blu to make sure everything was ok with his leg the vet sprayed alcohol all over it to replicate how it would look after a bath (because it looked weird to me when he was wet) and he didn't suffer any ill consequences from that.

@Ciprian , I'm so very sorry for your loss!

I'm also not sure about the alcohol. Maybe its good for legs but probably not good for blood around the abdomen. I wish i knew that back then.
Thank you again for the kind words:)

I had a Security Camera App installed on my older phone to watch her.
I am still not sure if it was paralysis or a fractured leg or other bone.
She may have fallen from the top of the cage? A second opinion always helps.

Video was made from several motion detections:

FYI: She was staying in my balcony. The only thing i have noticed is that this happened after a storm.

Maybe it was a heart attack?
Again, the only way to know would have been to undergo a necropsy at the time.

If you have lots of footage maybe you could make a nice montage video so that you can watch it and remember all the happy times? ❤
