My First Foray into Breeding - Linnies are Hatching!!

The baby is normal. Mama just doesn’t know she’s supposed to tuck him up against her.

Go by how agitated they get when you check them. If they hate it don’t do it AT ALL. Stay out of the nest as much as possible... you don’t want to lose any little ones.

I was definitely checking too much in the beginning. Now I do one in the morning and one at night. They're very laid back when I do though.

Out of the 7 eggs, we ended up with 4 chicks. I pulled the two oldest and have them on 4 handfeedings a day. Ma and pa still have the youngest two, one of which (judging by the colors of the eyelids...lol) we're hoping to be a lutino. According to genetics, 50% of the males should be dark green and 50% normal green. The females should be 12.5% dark green, 12.5% normal green, and 50% lutino.

We ended up with 3 greens and 1 lutino. We're thinking of keeping the lutino.
I've pulled all of them from the nest and seperated ma and pa because those two seriously need to take a BREAK. At least until the Fall.

They grow up so quick! Moved them from the brooder into a cage yesterday, now they're shyly poking their heads out of the box lolol.

We sold 2 babies and are keeping two. One as a pet and one as a breeder. I'll post pics tomorrow.
