This is Slater, my dear old red dog. He is 14 years old. I got Slater when he was 10 weeks old. He is a breed champion and has his CD in obedience (which I have to brag he got with placements at all breed shows:). His registered name is Champion Mordax Legend of Braveheart CD, but we call him Slater, although he can't hear what we call him anymore:)

Oh, I'm sorry:) A CD is a Companion Dog title in competition obedience. The dog has to heel on and off leash, do a stand for exam, recall, 1 minute sit stay and 3 minute down stay. I used to do obedience, but now I am enjoying rally obedience more which is more fun with more interaction with the dog. Slater also is a champion. I field trialed him a little bit but he was never into it like my girls:)

Thanks guys. He is a GREAT dog. He has one of the most solid temperaments I have ever met. One of my greatest memories of him is when me and my husband and his family went to an antique fair and brought Slater along. We were talking to a couple with a really cute little girl, she was probably like 2 1/2 or 3 years old, really a cute and sweet little girl. Slater was on leash and we were getting something to eat. At some point we turned around to see that Slater was lying down, in a perfect sphynx down, on his chest, and little girl was sitting on his back like he was a bench eating a piece of pizza. He did not get up, he did not move, he did not snatch the pizza (my biggest fear) in fact, he did not seem to mind. She was not being bad, in her eyes, it looked like a perfectly reasonable place to sit:) Slater really has a heart of gold.

Thanks guys. We had the first fire of the season yesterday and my husband pulled a dog bed in front of the fireplace (at a safe distance of course) and Slater and Ivy (our 12 year old Dachshund) curled up all toasty. He LOVES being warm and loves being by the fireplace.
