Some of you might be familiar with poor Mr. Newts ever changing tank:rolleyes: He had the same tank decorations for 6 years before it needed to be replaced due to chipping finish last year. I also upgraded him from a regular rectangular tank to the half moon since the shape is better for him (more swimming room). Now, since last spring, I've had to replace the decor 2X due to chipping during cleaning:bored:

*HOPEFULLY* we have hit on a winning combination now! I really thought hard about it, and the first decor that lasted so long was from the reptile section, not the fish section so maybe that was the long-lasting difference (???). I found him a nice log from the reptile section. Hoping this will last 5 or 6 years before the paint starts chipping.

Look at my pretty belly!

Loving my new log! Can hang out half in/out of the water:dance5:

It looks like a very nice tank for him! Which species of newt is he?

His stomach looks like it is a vibrant orange.

Thanks:) He's a very active newt and I like to think his set up gives him room to move around and do newt stuff. We were told he was a fire belly, but quite a few people far more into amphibians that I have seen him and don't think he is. Apparently it's common to call any newt that has red or orange on the belly a fire belly. I think he is actually some subspecies of paramesotriton (warty newts) most of which have the orange bellies too.

His markings are a little different than the fire belly's. Less orange and more brown. Whatever he is, he's one lucky newt! :)
