Marley...

Marley flew up to the Bridge last night. We found him this morning, sitting on his eggies, with Omega,his mate, sitting beside him.

Marley was bought at a fundraising auction of our local bird club back in 2005. The auction has many items donated to them...the also will auction birds. Anyway, I was sitting there, minding my own business. A single baby budgie was offered for auction....no body bid on him.
People began to laugh...and one guy sitting behind me chuckled and bid a dollar. He said, loudly, "Well, at least I can breed with it."

I immediately bid 10 dollars...the guy again laughed and said, "You can have it!"

I turned around and said...loudly..." IT'S NAME IS MARLEY!"

He was a wonderful member of our flock...proud and independent. He always made his own way in the human world...never seeking out human interaction....he was happy being a budgie.

He found the love of his life...Omega...and was a devoted mate and Dad...always taking his turn sitting on their eggs. ..

Farewell Marley...thanks for gracing our lives with your presence...we'll meet you further on down the road...

Please don't worry about Omega...we'll watch over her for you...

I totally agree...and I like to say we were also lucky to have such a vibrant little soul share his life with us.

How is Omega doing?

Naturally she is calling for him...it's always the saddest thing when you have a member of a flock pass...the other members of the flock feel a loss and will mourn their loss...

I'm sorry for your loss, Bob, the love you have for all your fids always comes through when you write about them. Marley is probably telling Cassie all about the flock and especially Milty …

Omega is taking this very hard...she keeps calling for Marley, looking around the cage for him, then she looks out of the cage at us...cocking her head.

I have always said we'll acquire no more birds....but this is a totally unusual situation. Budgies always do better when they're in a flock. So...we're going to open our hearts again...and look for another budgie...it's the right thing to do.

That means getting an old cage out of storage and cleaning it up to prepare for a quarantine period. We'll start talking to our friends and our vets.

Marley is looking in from the Bridge...and he's smiling...I know he's so happy that we're going to share our hearts and home with a budgie that needs both...

Thank you for taking him in and saving him from that other guy. Marley had a wonderful life with you. You, your wife, and the rest of your flock (especially Omega) are in my thoughts.
