How many of you have needed to have the Lupron shots done to your feathered ones?

I know they have to do three in a row.

But what I didn't know was how extremely pricey they are! $125 per shot. So about $375 for the series!

Its a human medicine so I understand it'll be costly but YOUCH!

Yeah, Snuggles has had to have two. He developed a habit of picking a spot on his back. It works well, but they surely are expensive!

Was your price around what I'm being told? Over $100 PER shot?

My friend pays $190 each time for her Cockatiel, Sonny.

I considered Lupron for a tiel - a series of 3 shots at $46 each.

I had them done last year with my tiel girl, but it wasn't that expensive. Perhaps because they use a lot less for a tiel? Or maybe it's a regional thing. She had two shots...worked like a charm, no problems at all.

My vet charges around $80 each plus $25 for a short appointment. This was for a budgie and the cost goes up for bigger birds since a higher dose is needed. My vet says the medication goes bad quickly, so she only orders it when needed.

I don't recall how much they were, but our vet is pretty pricey, so probably $100. It could be less.

I would consider using Releaves, the new product from Harrison for a few months before resorting to Lupron. There is a thread here on AA that contains a response from the mfgr of Releaves regarding safety and effectiveness in trials.

My cockatiel started laying eggs at the beginning of September and they started her with the 3 series, 1 every week.
She has needed several Lupron "Boosters" since then.
They cost $50 a pop for her. She has also needed calcium injections and anti-inflammatory ones. Those are $30-$40 a piece.
Lupron has kind of, sorta helped her. I don't think it's the right direction for her, though. Meeting with my avian vet again this week to discuss other alternatives.

Hello! Is the Releaves a tea? I bought a tea from Teak 4 Beaks. It's called ReproBrew and, from what I've read, people say it helps a lot.

No Releaves is not a tea. It is the leaves and stems of a Raspberry plant. it is fed mixed in or on top of their food.

My female GW was on it for awhile and I noticed no difference. She didn't have homonal symptoms to begin with and she didn't have them afterwards.

Depo Vera is another drug used for excessive egg laying.

Thank you for the information.

My AV tried depo vera on my 'tiel, but it didn't work so she switched her over to Lupron... But that isn't working that great either.
