What a sweet face. 
It seems like it'll take forever, but I still think the two of you will bond. Little by little you will learn one another and develop your own unique relationship. 
Even if it took a year or two, what's that compared to 15-20 years? Just be patient & enjoy his fluffy self in the meantime.
