Hi. Tilly Lilly my rainbow lorikeets & I have joined this great forum so that we can learn and help others along what is a pretty long journey together. I want do the best I can by her, though as time goes by I believe she is a he, because she favours me over my husband in spite of him trying hard to be Tilly Lilly’s friend. I was no bird expert when Tilly Lilly came into our lives one evening in a box, after being picked up beside a puddle by the roadside unable to fly. She was supposed to go to WIRES, a wildlife protection group, but at the time info on Dr Google implied the bird probably had beak & feather disease, and would be put down. Well I had a cage in the shed & figured if the Lori was civil with us, rather than condemn it to death it could stay as we had no birds for it to infect. Never did I expect to end up with the most entertaining & companionable pet we now have. Super smart, super quick on the pick up, Tilly Lilly learned a lot from YouTube - I kid you not,) inquisitive, playful, affectionate & poopy. Incidentally, it turned out Tiily Lilly did not have Beak & Feather Disease, she was a juvenile, and began flying about a week after arriving. Tilly is fine with everyone but seems to be incredibly jealous of my husband & cat if I am close to them. Tilly is ok with hubby when I’m not around, but flies at him & occasionally nips him if he gets near me. Hubby keeps clear as we recognise the aggressive signs, but I fear this just reinforces the behaviour. I’d like to know how socialise her so that she does not nip hubby or the cat.
