Reality Storm
Moving in
Just saying hello for my Bronze-winged Pionus, Loki. He is my first bird of any sort. I've been leaning on my former roommate for all things parrot-related for the last few years, but now I'll be sending all of my questions and worries to y'all for your collective experience and insight.
He was clipped when I got him at 6 months, but I've allowed his feathers to grow in, so he is now flighted.
He's been living for the past 4 years in a giant King's Cages corner cage (King's Cages - Avian and Pet Bird Cages, Supplies, Food, Toys, Perches, Aviaries, Pluck No More); it was the largest I could find with appropriate bar spacing (3/4"). I've seen some site mention that 1" spacing is safe for the larger pionus like him, but I don't think I'd go past 7/8", and most all big cages out there are 1" or bigger.
I've been wanting to upgrade his cage. His current is almost too big for him, I feel, as he rarely goes down to the bottom half. And given its dimensions, it can't be moved between rooms without completely dismantling it. Also, even though King's has the best reputation for the china-based cage companies, I want to just eliminate all powder-coating worries and go for Stainless. After scouring the internet, I've decided to order him an Expandable Habitats cage. Searching for reviews of their stuff is how I found this forum.
This is Loki enjoying some popcorn when he was about 2 years old. Popcorn trumps everything else on the rare occasions I let him have some.
And here he is taking a bath this past weekend (now 4 1/2)
We'll see you all on the forums.
