I found her on cl and picked her up last night on my way home from work as a buddy for my little Sky, who lost his best friend a few weeks ago. Her cage is so small. Why would anyone keep a flighted animal in something like this?

She smells like cigarette smoke. :( The owner said she is 4-5 mos. old, but she looks younger? Could she still have some growing to do? Poor little thing is TINY and definitely smaller than my American budgie that passed away, Pip. I am pretty sure she came from a breeder of parakeets in town who is selling them with these awful tiny cages.

I dont know that I"ll keep Petunia as a name, but I'm trying it out.

I'm trying to get her into a bigger 30x18" cage to quarantine her, but the door on her current cage is so darn small, I'm having trouble getting her through it. I set the cages up side by side with a big millet in the bigger one. Hopefully, when I come home tonight she'll have moved in. She loved her millet last night. :)

Congrats. She is very, very cute. Great that you were able to get her. She is a lucky bird! I hope that she and Sky will become friends.

Well, "Petunia" isn't a very masculine name anyway.... so I think a name change is in order, regardless! ;)

He's lovely! :D

@Monica @iamwhoiam A boy! Why do you think it's a boy! I'm shocked! (Would it be bad to keep Petunia as a name anyway?)

Recessive Pied + Pink Cere = Male

I don't see any indication that Petunia is female, so I'd say he's a male! If you want to keep his name, then by all means! Parrots don't really care what you call them! :) (generally speaking!)

Oh, and since he's recessive pied, his eyes will always remain black.

Wow! Thanks Monica!!! I had no idea! And I love his black eyes. I'm glad he will be keeping them! I still like Petunia so I might keep it, even though he's likely male. :)

@iamwhoiam thanks! That link is great! Very informative!

He had not left his little cage for the big cage when I got home tonight. I finally unclipped the cheap flimsey top off his cage and pointed it into the bigger cage. He ate some millet. LOL I'm so scared that he wont see his water that I put three water dishes in there. He seems to really like the rope perch.

Awww, what a cute little guy! Congratulations!

If you keep the name Petunia, you could call him Pete for short. Pete-tunia, LOL. :p

I love the people who adopt off of craigslist - you're an angel! I think Petunia's an awesome name for him and I wish you the best of luck.
I got Cooper from a lady who smoked in the house, and I'd suggest taking him to a vet to make sure his tiny size isn't stunted growth or anything.
