Keiba (IRN); male OR female — what do you think?! DNA sexing being done. .

Well, this morning I received the test kit so I can have Keiba, my Indian Ringneck, DNA sexed.. finally! (well, that and another reason) I am sending the test in on Monday, and I should have the results the following Wednesday or Friday.

I will let you know the results, but for now, I want to know if you think Keiba is a male or female. (Keiba is nearly 2 years old by the way..)

I will add here (I edited my post) Keiba is nearly 2 years old, IF male he will get a black ring, IF female, it will look the same as the photo I posted in my OP.

There is a faded black mark around his neck, but apparently most IRNs can have that, so doesn’t necessarily mean anything right now.

Yeah, Keiba looks like a female at the moment, and if so, at least Keiba will have a female name, otherwise Keiba will be a male with a female name.

I'm not going to guess, Keiba is certainly beautiful!! I'm anxious to hear what he/she is though and will be watching for the results. How long does it take?

Renae, is Kelba Albino, or more accurately grey pallidino? Most people call the white mutation "albino" but that isn't technically correct. I can't tell from the picture if he is a light blue or white. If he is grey pallidino (looks white) you won't be able to visually sex him because the male will not have a ring. I am going to guess you have a handsome little boy minus the ring that the male ringnecks are known for.

Renae, another way you may be able to tell is the display. The male ringnecks do an elaborate courtship display, snaking their heads, making heart wings, etc. Females usually tilt their head up, pin their eyes and cluck. Have you noticed either of these displays?
