I buy higgins vita-seeds for my tiel. The last batch I bought less then month ago was crawling with black beatles. I froze the food for two weeks and they are still alive. Grosssssss


I called higgins, hopefully they will replace the bag.

Baking kills the seeds. I tried micro wave for 50 seconds. Gross little buggers

Microwaving them seems to have done the trick don't see anything crawling.

Some eggs/larva are only made dormant by freezing, so when they thaw they hatch/mature. Still creeps me out!

Oh whoa... I was thinking as others said - how gross... then I saw you say they FLY? HOLY moly - They FLY???
I thought maybe they were like the flour bug weevil things that infest flour, but I've never seen those fly - YOWWWWW!

Ick, seems to me i can recall at least one manufacture nitrogen flushes there mixes to prevent this. Unfortunately i can't remember the name at the moment.
