Our "Mayor of the Avenue" award is presented to a member who exhibits the qualities that distinguish them to be an upstanding credit to the Avenue, a loving, informed, conscientious and caring bird parront and an all around good neighbor.
I am happy to announce that Dawn is July's Mayor of the Month.
I enjoyed reading your interview, and am sure that everyone else will as well!
1. What kind of birds do you have (age, species and names)?
I have quite the crew
Eddie, G2, 6
Snowball, G2, 8
Rango, RB2, age unknown
Neka, CAG, 4
Sam, CAG, age unknown

Bubbles, budgie, age unknown

2. What got you interested in birds?
Many years ago, a family member had a B&G and a yellow napped Amazon.
3. What have your birds brought to your life?
Lots of dust
4. What have you learned from sharing your life with your birds?
Patience.
5. What's one birdie memory that will stay with you forever?
Let me set the scene...it's Christmas time, just getting dark. Time to plug in the Christmas lights. They need to be plugged in behind the end table. Down by the baseboard. I'm leaning over the table, reaching down, reaching, I almost got it, reaching, it's RIGHT THERE, I can't quite, CRASH... I slip, fall, down behind the table. Wedged between the table and wall. Legs straight up in the air! Behind me I hear Sam.
Sam-"whatcha doing down there?"
Me-"I'm stuck"
Sam-"oh" evil bird laughter followed.
6. Where is your birds main living area?
They're right in the middle of the hustle and bustle.
7. Did you change things in your home to accommodate your birds and if so what kinds of things did you change?
Yup, sure did. Gave them the house basically.
8. Are you involved in any kind of bird related group or activities?
Just AA.
9. What is the one luxury item you would love to have for your bird(s)?
A few Austin Airs would be nice. 3 Toos and 2 greys!
10. Is there any bird that you dream of owning and if so why?
My dream bird was a Rosie. Found one for adoption. Got him. He's in love with my husband. Go figure.
11. Describe a typical day with you at home with your birds.
Chaos. Seriously. It's rotating who can be out with who and not cause trouble. Food being flung, papers being changed then immediately being ripped to shreds. Taking turns on the net, kraken, and Java tree, hiding the clanger banger. Yelling at the dogs, tripping over the vacuum. Who unscrewed their cage. Eddie let snowball out again. Jules, get out of there, that's not yours, stop that. Do not chew the screen...... Is it bed time yet?.....I like chaos, and I am very lucky to have these brats in my life. I'm also lucky that none of them needs to be "entertained" they are all very independent.
12. What have you learned about owning birds that you would like to share?
Patience. Learning to let them be who let they want to be.
13. If you knew then what you know now about birds, what would you do differently?
I wouldn't change anything. Every mistake along the way is an opportunity to learn.
14. What other hobbies do you have?
Oh, I have a whole list! I'm a jack of all trades, master of none!
The most interesting (at least to me) I took classes at a Hot Shop in Philly. Loved that. So much fun. Right now I'm learning to sew Jammie's for my dogs.

I didn't realize you had such a large flock! Wow - they must keep you busy- and bring a lot of fun.
