Going to be building a wood screen partition between my living room and kitchen this Friday and Im wondering if there is any safe stain I should be looking for so I can stain the wood ...not planning on staining the wood until summer so I can open the doors for air flow but I would like it to be a dark stain for the wood ..any ideas ?

look for a water-based one. There are now several brands.
I've used Old Master's water-based wood stain on trim around the inside of windows and liked it.
There is also water-based "varnish" (can't think of the right word)

I'll look it over at work tomorrow, but I would still use good air flow. You can put them in another room with a door, put towels under the door, and vent out and open window with a box fan.
