Is Camellia Japonica safe?

My aunt managed to propagate a few branches from her Camellia Japonica plant (aka: Japanese Tea Roses), and I've been dying to have a rose like hers. But, I've been looking around and can't tell if they're safe or not. I heard that Camellia is safe, but I'm not sure if Camellia Japonica is a different subspecies or if the entire genus/species is safe.

I might just be being paranoid, since Yen loves to shred my plants and I don't want her to get sick chewing on the leaves or flowers.

The paler pink variety is what my aunt has. I'll be bringing it home regardless if it's safe or not, but if it isn't safe, it's going in a room the birbs aren't allowed into.
