She has so many blood feathers! That looks kinda nasty to me, could be an infected feather shaft, have you ever seen it before? I would have vet look at it.

No I saw this today only.
But it might have been here and was covered with other feathers.
There is no avian vet here in Mauritius but I’ll take her to a vet anyway in case they can do something.

Any vet should be able to help your girl. I sure looks like an infected feather shaft to me.

Would you know the treatment for this and if it will be all right?

I have never had to deal with an infected feather, but I'll tag someone who knows a lot about feathers.

Larger pictures and I'm still seeing a mess. I'm not seeing a specific issue with one feather but the whole area looks rough. That's a lot of pin feathers. Has your baby been chewing herself?

Has Artémise been plucking or pulling feathers? There are so many blood feathers coming in.
Good that you are getting her to the vet and hope all will be well.

Yes she has been plucking.
Chewing I don’t think so.
But she always have had a feather problem. She never had feathers under her wings or on her belly and at one time she became almost naked.
They are just now starting to grow.
Is there something I should do ?

You need to see a vet and go over your diet and environment to start. I know Ekkies have complicated diets...

I’ll see a vet during the week as soon as I get an appointment .
I give her fruit and veg only and I have just bought a purifier/humidifier.
I do hope it will help her.
But it’s true the environment where I live is very dirty and people burn things around.
When I go to work I have to leave her with the air conditioner.

Hello
Brought her to two vets.
One said it was fungus and when I showed the infected part, said it was the same thing and gave her a lotion/ triben.
The lotion is for human and lots of side effects on the leaflet. So I have not used it yet.
The other could not say what it was and gave me an antibiotic for swine, chicken and sheep.
Have not used it too.
I think I’ll wait and see and if she does not improve, try one of them.

Many, if not most, medications used on parrots were developed for dogs. cats, and humans. A couple of examples are Metacam and enrofloxacin (Baytril). The label on the package says it is appropriate for Poultry (a bird). The lotion (Triben) is specifically for a fungal infection.

Did you discuss the meds with the vets? I sure wouldn't let my birds suffer like it appears yours if suffering.

Yea I did
And asked them about side effects and all.
I’ll start by using one of them and see her reaction.

Just make sure you find out if the lotion is okay for her because she might try to preen the area and swallow some of it. Better safe then sorry.

Yes... I have not found out for sure yet
That is why I am so doubtful before using it.
