IMPORTANT BILL IN THE HOUSE

This message is for all USA residents.
Please stop what youre doing and follow this link provided at the bottom
of this message. NFSS board fully supports this message.

There is a House Bill to amend the ESA (Endangered Species Act), so that
it only lists/regulates species NATIVE to the US (HR 2603). Basically, the
new language is eliminating NON NATIVE from its language.

Below is the link. Please pass this message on to everyone even those
without birds (friends & family).
We need your and their support! This method makes it simple for us to
respond online supporting this Bill.

This is very important to everyone in your club, to everyone who owns a parrot or other exotic pet. If passed, this bill will remove all non-native species from regulation under the current ESA. Species now restricted from interstate commerce would be able to be sold across state lines and, for residents of states that make ownership of ESA listed species illegal, the ramifications are gigantic! Please write to your representatives and share this message. AFA is fighting for our rights and needs everyone's support. With numbers, our voice will be loud and heard…...

The Endangered Species Act was originally intended for NATIVE species only - until some of the radical Animal Rights (PETA, ALF, ELF and others) caused NON-NATIVE species to be included. Right now several species of popular parrots are included on the list that does not allow sale between states nor, in some states possession of these species. Scarlets, Military, Buffons, Spix and more recently the target has been put on the Hyacinth macaw. This is just a partial list - many Amazons, African Greys and conures are also on the lists.

The restriction of sale, trade or transport of these parrots in the US does nothing to curb the offenses committed in their NATIVE HABITAT, it only makes the parrots unavailable to US citizens and reduces their breeding in the US. The Wild Bird Conservation Act of 1992 virtually stopped all importation of parrots into the USA. There are very few wild caught birds left in the USA and they are becoming aged. Stopping trade within the borders of the US of these restricted species DOES NOTHING FOR THE PARROTS IN THEIR NATIVE HABITAT. THE USA DOES NOT IMPORT WILD CAUGHT BIRDS AND HASN'T SINCE 1992.

Please contact your Representative and ask them to support HR-2063

This year the scarlet and African grey may go higher on cities, which will cause both species to not be sold across state lines.

This bill needs support.

Could you post the direct link to the write a letter thing for me? I am on mobile and can't copy it for some reason.

If this went into effect would it affect most parrot species? (Including small parrots?)

If this bill is passed it will lift the regulations on the the military macaw, the blue throat macaw... this year the scarlet and African grey will be moving up on the list and have regulations.

Would it nullify any future restrictions on them?

I hope it passes. I hate think a bird might not have access to good vet care or rehomed to a good home when/if it could be just a state away. As a Canadian there's not much I can do but I wish you guys luck with it :)

I couldn't find a date anywhere or maybe I missed it. Do you when the bill is up for a vote? Or are there any updates?

Best of luck with it
