I'm going to start fostering for the local rescue starting in January so I can start getting more experience with different birds. I don't have much else to say about it right now, but I do look forward to this! :D

Very generous of you. And as a volunteer with a rescue in desperate need of foster families, thank you!

Wonderful to get involved! We do not do much fostering at AHW, but I know it is critical for many shelters to be able to help the next bird.

I apologize if you thought about this already, but it is such a huge concern with AHW, that I am always on the soapbox :) Please be sure the rescue you foster for has at an absolute minimum performed disease testing on any bird before you bring them home and expose your personal feathered babies. The absolute minimum they need to test is PBFD and psittacosis (chlamydia).

Awesome again for getting involved! Have a great holiday!

Change of plans: We may not foster after all due to our cat being scared of new additions to the house. We realized it might be too stressful for him if we had a new bird in the house every month, so we might just plunge into adoption at this point to not stress the cat out too much. We will most likely spend time with a few different birds until we find "the one" bird that is right for our family. Sorry if I disappointed anyone, but I want my cat to be happy.

Its always good to consider all family members and how it will affect them, so in my opinion there is nothing to be sorry about! Its a good thing to consider everyone!

Adoption is also just as fantastic as a thing to do. We previously fostered and it ended horribly due to a disease the foster brought in so its highly unlikely I'll ever foster again, now I have adopted a couple since then and its a fantastic experience! Maybe you can volunteer at a rescue and get to see a few types of birds for a couple months before you decide to bring one home?
