Also a small thing I mentioned earlier is that he's been chewing on the wood of his little playhouse is that normal?
Completely. They love chewing things.

Most birds are smart enough that they chew up things to little bits and the crumbs fall out. Your bird more than likely isn't actually swallowing wood. I'd suggest going to the vet for a wellness check if you haven't been in for his yearly exam (keep up on those; prevention is one of the best medicines!).
