My husband sent me this picture to see if I could identify it. Someone he knows found it by itself and don't know what it is. It's a bit roughed up, may have been picked up by a crow or other predator and dropped. What do you think it is?

I think maybe a turkey.
I just looked at turkey beaks and they look the same.

I just looked too and the wild turkey chicks I looked at had more pinkish legs. The legs on this baby are yellow greenish. We thought maybe a peacock?

Too bad they didn't take a photo of it standing. It also has a little webbing between the toes. We thought maybe it might be some species of marsh bird but nothing matches.

It's a peacock baby.
I think you are right. I see babies all the time at the Arboretum but didn't think of that.
I have a few photos of the babies somewhere.
The webbing on the feet, though...don't know. Peacocks don't have webbed feet.

No, this was someone who found it in a neighborhood and sent him the photo to identify since he does wildlife photography. My birdy "Inn" is closed! :D

Awe, maybe a wild life refuge will take the wee one in?
The lady who has it used to work for the Wildlife Raptor Center in Awendaw, SC. She does wildlife rescues and a while back there were two mallard ducks that had blow darts... one had it in the neck and the other through the chest... swimming around in a pond, she spent weeks trying to capture these ducks, spent money to buy nets, a kayak and other gear but I don't believe she was ever able to catch them. She'll make sure this little one gets where it needs to go!

I remember hearing about this. Heartbreaking. I live in SC too and I have visited the Center for the birds of prey as well. Very cool place.
