The fakes do need to have good weight and feel solid so they heat up like an egg would. They don't have to be exactly the same size but very close.
Once she is doing a little better, putting on some weight and not laying more eggs, I would change up her environment. Take away anything that might look like a place to nest or lay eggs and keep changing it up monthly so she doesn't get too comfortable.
